skos:definition """The objective of the Grille spectrometer (GRILLE) experiment was to
determine the vertical distribution profiles of trace constituents, on
a global scale, between 15 and 150 km altitude through spectroscopic
observations of the Earth's limb in the wavelength range
characteristic of the vibrational-rotational lines of atmospheric
constituents. GRILLE was flown on the Space Shuttle as part of the
Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science (ATLAS 1) and on
Spacelab 1. In addition to the atmospheric species previously studied
with the GRILLE instrument on the Spacelab 1 flight, the instrument
has also studied the hydroxyl radical (OH) on the ATLAS 1 flight. The
equipment consisted of an infrared spectrometer with a telescope and a
cooled infrared detector. The spectrometer operated in the wavelength
range from 2.5 to 10 microns at a resolution better than 0.1 per
cm. The grille on the instrument is a 15 x 15 mm square with a minimum
step of 0.1 mm. The GRILLE instrument was not be flown on subsequent
ATLAS flights.
