The name is an abbreviation for 'ÇOk-BANtlı Kamera', that is, 'Multi-Band Camera'.
UZAY has gained experience on electro-optical systems in space.

ÇOBAN has been designed in the framework in the framework of the BİLSAT project. ÇOBAN has been designed and manufactured by Turkish engineers and technicians.
