skos:definition """The Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) is a plankton sampling
instrument designed to be towed from merchant ships on their
normal sailing. As a near-surface monitor system the CPR is
efficient because it can survey large areas during a
cruise. Data from different cruises is comparable because of the
same route.

The first prototype of this instrument was used by Alister Hardy
in the Antarctic already in 1925-27. After that, the CPR has
been used regularly for instance in the North Sea and North
Atlantic.
