  • One of the taxonomic kingdoms, comprising eukaryotic, non-photosynthetic organisms, which obtain nutrients by the absorption of organic compounds from their surroundings. Fungi usually have chitin-containing cell walls and may be unicellular, filamentous (mycelial), or plasmoidal.
