DEFINITION
- The Satellite Infrared Spectrometer (SIRS) is a grating spectrometer, first carried on Nimbus 3, to obtain temperature soundings of the atmosphere. It had eight detectors, Fastie-Ebert optics, and a 12-degree field of view. [Summary provided by Euromet]
